First 2-y-o piece of work

It may be very early in the year but our chestnut Spartacus colt was ready to do his first piece of quick work today. He is the most precocious horse I have trained and the lads all love his tough attitude. He quickened very nicely when asked and was very relaxed on his way back home to the yard.

Work rider turns jockey

It was a big day for our stablelad Scott Houghton today as he had his first ride on the flat. He and Orchard House were a respectable mid-division at Southwell. Scott has an amateur licence but will convert to be a conditional jockey by the end of the year and go jumping.

Various entries

Tidal Fury (pictured below) has now been entered for Wetherby on 2nd February for a 20f handicap chase. Again he will only run if the ground suits. Pie O My came home from Wolverhampton very well and now heads to Lingfield on 6th February.

Prince Joshua

Prince Joshua has made great strides over the last month of so. He was too backward to run as a two year old but the extra time we have given him has allowed him to develop and mature. He will need a trip (his 1/2 sister won over 2 miles as a three year old) but is progressing very well.

Ground too firm for Tidal

The drying weather means that I have not declared Tidal Fury for the planned race at Doncaster tomorrow. His next possible race is on 2nd February at Wetherby.

Yard update

Pie O My has been declared to run at Wolverhampton on Friday with Adam Kirby taking the ride. Adam came in last Saturday to ride the horse in a piece of work. Tidal Fury remains in top form for Saturday at Doncaster and I am happy to see that the going has now changed to soft which he will enjoy. I entered Orchard House for a 1m6f amateur riders handicap at Southwell on Tuesday 29th January. Pictured is our Mark of Esteem two year old filly.
