Kheleyf filly broken in.... and SOLD
The yard is pleased to welcome Betting Banter to its list of owners. Betting Banter have purchased the Kheyelf filly who herself has been making excellent progress and has now been ridden away following being broken in. She has joined other horses from the stable trotting around the Severalls and has not been overwhelmed by introduction to the wider environment, the training, or the snow!
Besides training horses for the flat, the yard has its share of National Hunt candidates. The jumping contingent has been boosted by a further new arrival, an unraced 5 year old, Cerise En Bleu. (bottom photo below) This horse has been specifically bred for National Hunt racing and has followed the traditional route of once broken in, being allowed to mature before being trained on. He is therefore eligable for entry into "bumpers" (National Hunt flat races) before being introduced to hurdles / chase fences as he has not raced on the flat under the Rules of Racing. If following the "jumps" is an interest he is available for sale. For further details contact Jonathan on 07852561417 (Further details will be added to the horses available page of this web site shortly)
Newmarket in the snow
We managed to get all the horses out despite the snow with no major dramas. Many thanks to the lads for braving the cold and getting everything home safely. Pictured are Mekong Miss and Lady Asheena on the way back from Side Hill.
A busy time ahead
Following a quiet time with the yard not having many runners, over the next few weeks looks like being a busy time. A number of horses have been entered to run over the next seven days, including Crimson Mitre, Maximus Aurelius and Raimond Ridge on successive days. These are followed by Mekong Miss and Amber Sunset, photo below, shortly thereafter (see entries made and confirmed runners pages of this web site for further details). Raimond Ridge's entry is the first since he recently joined the yard. The break with out runners has allowed the cough that has been in the yard to clear up and all horses hopefully return to the track in good spirit.
Long Hill returns to use
Occasionally some of the gallops are out of use for short periods of time while they are maintained. One that we use regularly, Long Hill, being one such gallop that has been refurbished over recent weeks. Over this period we have used Bury Hills to allow the horses to be trained without significant disruption to their routine. This being oneof the benefits of training horses in Newmarket and the number of gallops available to us (see the Newmarket pages of this website)
There are also a number of Lunge rings available for use, we have used these to progress the breaking in of the Kheleyf filly (see News item below) who has had a "roller" on her back over the last few days. The "roller" being the first stage in the process of introducing a horse to a saddle.
Yearlings continue to progress
The yearlings in the stable continue to progress, although at different rates as would be expected of horses their age. The filly out of So Elegant, the former stable winner (see news item below), has been given a bit more time turned out at a local stud to allow her to develop. She is a first foal and the experience gained by the yard with her mother, and also how her sires other prodgeny have developed, suggest she will not be at the race track as an early two year old. This first hand knowledge of her blood line is invaluable when assessing the best course of action to take to ensure her potential is maximised during what is hoped will be a successful racing career. The Kheleyf filly (also see below), on the other hand, is able to be considered for breaking in as she is slightly more developed. Her sire has also had more than 50 winners as two year olds, suggesting she will be at the race track earlier than the filly out of So Elegant. But who can be certain, thats one of the many joys of horse racing !
Time for a trim........
With the horses coats growing longer its time for a haircut. A number of the horses in the yard have been clipped to make their grooming easier and keep them comfortable as they continue with their work. Some have been blanket clipped (see photo below) others have received a full body clip. It has been suggested the trainer should be included in the next visit to the yard of the clippers !!!
