Thursday 29th June 2006

Only a small photo but for us in the yard quite a big deal...Esthlos and Darth Vader's first canters back on Warren Hill. Both horses are coming back from serious fractures and this is a huge milestone reached. The lads at home have invested so much time and energy in getting the horses back to this stage and they are as excited as I am.
Stable "bad-boy" Carlton Scroop goes to Lingfield today as 4-1 favourite in this morning's Racing Post. He is in very good form but does have his own ideas at times. He will come back tonight either as a hero or villain depending on his mood.
The babies are continuing to work well and Ronannis is still on schedule for Yarmouth a week today. Other entries for next week include The Bonus King at Wolverhampton (Monday), Gaelic Roulette at Stratford (Wednesday) and Cortina at Southwell (Friday).

Sunday 25th June 2006

Ring of Destiny had more owners to check on his progress while at grass earlier in the week (Eileen and Alan pictured below).
Thanks to a tip off from Mike and Hazel White we had an enjoyable lunch today at The Star at Lidgate. Conveniently situated halfway between Newmarket and the stud farm that is looking after Ring of Destiny, it was the winner of The Daily Telegraph's 2005 Perfect Pub Award. Future research on the hostelries and eating places of the surrounding area will be conducted in ernest (for the benefit of our owners of course!).

Saturday 24th June 2006

Bill Bennett seems to have recovered quite well from being stiff and is pictured below on the Cambridge Road polytrack. Eastern Playboy, Henrietta Mews and Ronannis all worked very well again on the Al Bahathri gallop. Orchard House followed them up and looked impressive. Esthlos and Darth Vader cantered around Bury Hills. Of the three entries made for Lingfield Park on Wednesday on Carlton Scroop looks likely to get a run and even he needs a few to drop out. So Elegant has totally recovered from being jarred up and cantered nicely on Warren Hill. She should be ready to run again in about two weeks time.

Friday 23rd June 2006

Eastern Playboy (pictured below) is on target to be our first 2-year old runner. He worked well with the other babies this week and heads for Yarmouth on 6th July. He is owned by the Playboy Partnership who had a lot of success earlier in the year with Lowestoft Playboy (given one of the rides of the year byNeil Callan to win over 10f at Lingield back in February).Lowestoft Playboy is having a well deserved break and is enjoying life at home with Trevor and Susan Hodges. We hope to see him back in the new year. We are having the calm before the storm as the next few weeks look to be hectic with runners. We have entries going in tomorrow forLingfield 29th (Elli Lewtia, Carlton Scroop and Shardia).

Thursday 22nd June 2006

Some of our lads ride so well that they send the horses to sleep, as our young Brazilian apprentice Nigelos Walkeros shows below. I ho pe the Head Lad doesn't find out....

Wednesday 21st June 2006

Today was one of those days that we had something exciting happening every lot. Pictured below is The Bonus King schooling with Spike riding. The same lot saw us dash across to the Cambridge Road polytrack to see Shardia, Gaelic Roulette and Bill Bennett work over 8f. The babies (Eastern Playboy, Ronannis and Henrietta Mews) worked over 5f on the Al Bahathri gallop. Orchard House did a solo piece on Warren Hill.
The first of many skips arrived at Exeter House this morning. The floors above the stables are being ripped out and replaced. It is remarkable how much has been done in such a short period of time. The storage space this will create will allow us to keep the yard clear of bales of bedding etc.
