Monday 18th September

Carlton Scroop ran well at Plumpton yesterday only beaten by just over a length.  Leighton Aspell came in this morning and schooled both Elli Lewtia and Orchard House (pictured below).  Esthlos was ridden for the first time since his race on Friday and felt fine.

Our next runners will be on Thursday at Fontwell with Gaelic Roulette and Elli Lewtia.  Quite a few entries are going in today for the weekend, with racing at Market Rasen (Saturday) and Huntingdon (Sunday).  Amongst those being entered are Carlton Scroop, The Bonus King and Meddle.

Saturday 16th September

Lady Nimue (pictured below) has thrived since moving to Exeter House.  Although only fairly recently broken-in she has adapted well to the routine of the yard and enjoys her work.  On walm days all the horses are hosed down once they have cooled down from their exercise.  On cold days we only wash their legs and the lads sponge them down in the stables.

Both of yesterday's runners (Esthlos and Ronannis) came home sound and had lead outs.  Leighton Aspell is due in on Monday to put some finishing touches on Gaelic Roulette and Elli Lewtia, both of whom are entered to run on Thursday at Fontwell.

Friday 15th September

An enjoyable afternoon racing at Nottingham.  Ronannis again put in an improved performance and showed he will be winning soon in the 6f 2-y-o maiden.  The star of the day was Esthlos (pictured)  who put aside any doubts about his ability to return to racing after fracturing his cannon bone with an excellent 2nd place in the 8f maiden.  Both horses will receive their first handicap marks on Tuesday and we wait with anticipation.

Carlton Scroop has been declared for Sunday at Plumpton and remains in top form.

Thursday 14th September

Most of the yard had a single canter on Warren Hill.  Before the horses reach a grass or all-weather gallop we make sure they are fully warmed up but a session of walking and trotting at the Severals (see photo below).  Here we can see if the horses are sound and ready to do the work allocated them.  If we have any doubts about a horse we always err on the side of caution.

Wednesday 13th September

One of our busier days with three jockeys in to ride out. Derick McGaffin came in to ride out Esthlos ahead of his first race back on Friday at Nottingham. Both Esthlos and Henrietta Mews did some stalls work. Leighton Aspell and Colin Bolger schooled Meddle, Carlton Scroop, Elli Lewtia and Gaelic Roulette - all of whom schooled well.

Both Esthlos and Ronannis are running on Friday at Nottingham. Carlton Scroop heads to Plumpton on Sunday and Gaelic Roulette and/or Elli Lewtia may go to Fontwell on 21st September. Meddle will run at Huntingdon on 24th September.

Monday 11th September 2006

Ring of Destiny has settled in well and is being ridden daily (see photo below). As he has had so much time off his exercise will consist of only walking and trotting for the next month or so. Eastern Playboy is being declared to run at Beverley on Wednesday but we need quite a few horses to drop out to get a run. Likewise Ronannis for Nottingham on Friday but Esthlos is certain of getting a run at the same meeting.
