Monday 8th January
Bill Bennett runs at Wolverhampton today and although he is in good form only he knows how he will run on a particular day.
At home most horses had a single canter on Warren Hill with no great drama. The 2-year olds that had their first taste of speed on Saturday were understandably keen to get on with it but all behaved well. Esthlos (pictured below with Bobby) will be entered to run at Wolves on 21st.
Saturday 6th January
We bunched the 2-year olds up together on Warren Hill today to give them a taste of what to expect when they go racing. All of them took to the experience and as the weeks progress we will be gradually increasing the amount of speed work they do. Maximus Aurelius (pictured below) thinks he is a star and tried having a cheeky kick at our lead horse while running next to him. Our un-named Bishop of Cashel colt is progressing very well and is one to keep tabs on.
Both Leighton Aspell and Colin Bolger came in for schooling yesterday. This went very well and both Orchard House and Carlton Scroop will run at Catterick on Thursday. Thursday will also see Paddy Brennan ride for the yard for the first time.
Thursday 4th January
Our new all-weather gallop known as the Town Canter is proving a useful addition and most of our horses are using it for a warm-up hack canter before going onto Warren or Long Hill.
Bill Bennett and Carlton Scroop worked this morning on Long Hill and are looking in top form ahead of their runs next week. The two-year olds had a hack on the Town Canter before moving onto Bury Hills. Among them was Lady Asheena, our grey Daylami filly (pictured below).
Wednesday 3rd January
A very busy day on the heath and with most Newmarket yards not riding out yesterday avoiding fresh horses was the order of the day.
Esthlos, Lowestoft Playboy, Bill Bennett and Carlton Scroop all had a strong canter on Warren Hill. The babies led by Maximus Aurelius (pictured below) enjoyed a steady 4f canter on Bury Hills.
Tuesday 2nd January
A cold start to the New Year but the yard starts 2007 with much optimism for the coming year. We have our best group of horses ever and hope to build on our 2006 total of 12 wins (6 jumps and 6 flat). Our yearlings have become 2 year olds overnight and continue to impress. Our older horsers include some favourites such as Lowestoft Playboy (pictured below) who last ran in March last year.
We will not have a runner until Monday 8th when Bill Bennett goes to Wolverhampton. After then the runners will be coming thick and fast both on the all-weather and jumping.
Tuesday 19th December
What do you give a trainer for Christmas? If you are the Jockey Club Estates you give us a new £1/4 million gallop to play with. This new track is perfect for the babies who are now cantering daily. Pictured below is our unnamed grey Nayef colt part-owned by Harry Redknapp. Only one 1/4 share remains in him and he looks to be a star in the making....and the perfect Christmas present for someone.
