Wednesday 24th January
One of my favourite horses Scott (pictured below) has returned to the yard to go hurdling. In his last spell with us he won two races including The Green Howards Cup at York. He is a very consistant horse who loves the game and is a brave as they come.
Tuesday 23rd January
Featherlight (pictured below) ran a creditable 5th today at Southwell and looked like she may improve for a step up in trip. Tidal Fury has been given a jumps handicap mark of 140 and will run at Southwell on Saturday in the Novice chase.
We are nearing decision time on stallions for a number of our fillies and mares that are to be covered in the next couple of months. Many of our horses are homebreds (including Bill Bennett, Kleos, Lady Nimue and Carlton Scroop) and it is an exciting time as the decisions we make now will have a bearing on our runners in the years to come. Once all our mating plans are finished I will post them on the website.
Friday 19th December
All the horses have been checked this week by the equine dentist with a few of the 2-year olds having wolf-teeth removed. On the heath they have been steadily increasing in their work and today the majority of the young colts have two canters - the first on the new Town Canter and then onto Bury Hills for a further 4f. Pictured is Orchard House who today acted as a lead horse for Maximus Aurelius, the Nayef colt and Arthurian.
Tuesday 16th January
Tidal Fury and Carlton Scroop cantered twice on Warren Hill while the remainder just did a single canter. The 2-year olds (our Nayef colt is pictured below) are up to cantering behind the older horses and are thriving on the work.
Our next runner will probably be Featherlight on 23rd at Southwell. Bill Bennett was raised 4lbs for his second place last week. He will act as a lead horse for the babies until the turf season starts.
Saturday 13th January
A very busy work morning, the highlight being the 2 year olds bunching up on Warren Hill again. Pictured below is Kleos who has now been broken in. More details about him can be found on the Horses Available page.
I plan to bring Lady Nimue, Scott and The Bonus King back to Exeter House from the end of the month as we step up their work. All 3 are capable of winning and are horses to note for the future.
Another share in the Nayef colt has been sold and only one share remains in the Bishop of Cashel colt so we are starting to look for more horses to bring in. Doncaster's January sale is on 29th January and 1st February and Tattersalls have a sale on 8th and 9th February.
Tuesday 9th January
A very mild but windy morning here in Newmarket. First lot saw Carlton Scroop, Orchard House, Featherlight and Esthlos all doing 2 canters on Warren Hill. Tidal Fury had his first canter back since having a small break over Christmas which has freshened him up a treat.
A 1/4 share remains in our Bishop of Cashel colt (pictured nearside with Arthurian). He is developing into a very exciting prospect and looks to have been a bargain at only 3,000 guineas (£787.50 per 1/4 share + £475 all inclusive training fee per month).
Bill Bennett has come home all OK after his exciting 2nd place yesterday at Wolves....Bill is back!!!
