Friday 13th October news

Grey Nayef Yearling Colt (11,000 guineas - Tatts Part 2)

Our grey Nayef yearling is an imposing individual who we hope will have a jumping career once his flat racing days are over.  Before then he looks to have the potential to be very useful on the flat but will not be an early two year old.

His mother won a Newmarket maiden for Luca Cumani as a 3 year old and has already produced a winner (Ocean Gift).  Luca Cumani also trains our colt's 1/2 sister by Sakhee.

First season sire, Nayef, was unbeaten as a 2 year old yet improved with age to became a top class 10f colt winning races such as the Dubai Champion Stakes Gr.1 and Juddmonte International Gr.1.  He stands at stud for £15,000.

The colt is available as either a whole horse or in quarter shares.

Thursday 12th October

Gavin, our farrier, has worked his magic on Gaelic Roulette who had been feeling the after-effects of a badly bruised foot.  The shoes he has put on her give added support and allow us to canter her while giving the foot time to recover.  Bill Bennett is in good form ahead of his race tomorrow at Warwick.  Esthlos has numerous entries at various tracks and I will chose very carefully where we go next with him.

Two sessions at the sales resulted in 2 new (both grey) yearlings:
Lot 1449 - Nayef colt - 11,000 guineas
Lot 1469 - Daylami filly - 16,000 guineas
Photos of all the new youngsters to follow in the next few days.  I am off to France early next week and hope to come back with a couple more.

Wednesday 11th October

Carlton Scroop missed out on a trip to Ireland because of a low ballot mark.  We will look for a suitable juvenille hurdle race in England.

The two year olds did a nice piece on the Cambridge Road polytrack (pictured below).  Henrietta Mews (centre) will have her first run at Leicester over 6f on Monday 23rd October.  I have a feeling she will need further in time.

Elli Lewtia has been given the all-clear from the vet to resume cantering and Gaelic Roulette is full of energy and is about 2-3 weeks away from a run.

Yesterdays new yearlings (Night Shift and Daylami colts) had a lead out in hand.

Tuesday 10th October

The Bonus King is recovering very well from his cut leg.  Esthlos ran a blinder yesterday at Wolves finishing 2nd.

Have had a busy day at the Tattersalls sales making 2 purchases:

Lot 678 - Night Shift bay colt - 68,000 guineas.
Lot 753 - Daylami bay colt - 15,000 guineas (pictured below).

The sale lasts all week and we hope to bring in some more fresh blood to the yard.

Sunday 8th October

Orchard House (pictured below) put in his best run to date today at Bath and finished an encouraging 6th place in a 10f maiden.  He has shown ability at home but has taken longer than most to get his act together on the track.

The Bonus King sustained quite a serious cut on his near-side-rear leg at Bangor on Friday.  He returned home after treatment from the racecourse vet and should make a full recovery.

Esthlos heads to Wolverhampton tomorrow for a difficult looking 0-70 handicap.  He is in very good form and should stay the extended 9f trip.  His previous all-weather runs have been on Fibresand but the Polytack surface at Wolves is very similar to Warren and Long Hill gallops at home that he is used to.

Saturday 7th October

Lowestoft Playboy is back with us having had the summer off and will be campaigned on the all-weather.  Talking of playboys...Spike has returned for a few weeks before flying out to work in Dubai.  He will be taking Carlton Scroop to Ireland next week for a race at Tramore on Thursday 12th. So Elegant goes to the sales on 23rd October.

We are in the middle of sales time here in Newmarket so expect details of new horses in the coming weeks.  We are overflowing at the yard as it is and I need to find more boxes quite quickly.
