No more winners , yet, but the horses continue to run well
It has been a far from quite time at the yard, with all the horses that have gone to the racecourse over the last week having run well despite not winning. This includes a more than satisfactory debut by Kitty Koo at Southwell in a 1m maiden.
An update on Mathew Cosham (see the news item below) is that he will hopefully be able to return to the saddle at the racecourse in the very near future, and continue the promising start to his career as a jockey. He is due to be checked out by the medical representatives of the Jockey Club over the next few days to confirm that he has recovered from the fall sustained at Wolverhampton.
The younger, and older, contingent within the yard continue their education, the filly by So Elegent has had a roller on her back, and has been lunged using two reins to introduce her to being "steered". Hopefully she will have a saddle on her back in the next week. Cerise En Bleu, has also continued his education, enjoying the opportunity to exercise freely as shown in the photo below. He moves well and should make an interesting National Hunt prospect. (His pedigree can bee seen on the Horses available pages of this web site)
Matty OK after Wolverhampton fall
Our rising star apprentice, Matty Cosham, emerged unscathed from a horrible looking fall today at Wolverhampton. After a check up at A&E Matty was pronounced fit and well and our thanks go to the medical staff and Fergus Cameron at Wolves for their professional and calm reponse.
The second win of the new year !
Mekong Miss secured the second win of 2010 for the yard with success over 1m4f at Wolverhampton. Not only was it the second win for the yard but it was the second win for Mathew Cosham as jockey. Mathew took Mekong Miss to the front 4f from home having chased the leaders from the off, staying on strongly to claim the spoils by 1/2 length for his deserving owners Mrs Janet Martin and Mr Ken Snell.
Well done to all concerned.
At last the snow is gone.. for the time being
The recent spell of inclement weather has limited the opprotunity for horses to race with several of the all weather flat meetings being cancelled. The stable had entries on some of the flat cards lost. Needless to say the National Hunt fixture list has been all but wiped out. With horses being trained with their race programme in mind this can result in their training regime being altered at the last minute. In Newmarket we are lucky to have the facilities that exist, and at least training can continue. Elsewherse around the country it has all but come to a standstill.
The poor weather also calls for extra care when looking after the horses, and especially their feet and lower legs. The photo below shows Crimson Mitre being washed down following being taken round the trotting rings.
The pedigree of Cerise En Bleu can now bw seen on the Horses Available pages of this website. (see news item below) For further details, or if you wish to see the horse, please do not hesitate to contact Jonathan on 07852 561417 or email jj@jonathanjay.co.uk
And the're off....... THE FIRST WINNER OF THE NEW YEAR
The first winner of 2010 was banked on Friday 8th January. Congratulations to his owner Dave Fremmel whose orange and white colours were proudly carried to victory by Raimond Ridge over 5f at Lingfield. (see the quote in the Racing Post on the following Saturday re prize money and Racing for Change !!!!). Raimond Ridge came from the back after being held up to hit the front in the last furlong, staying on well to win by one length.
Not only was it a first for the yard for 2010, and the first for Dave Fremel since purchasing the horse but the treble was crowned by his jockey, Mathew Cosham (photo below) his first winner as an Apprentice Jockey, and ANOTHER first, it was Mathew's first ride for the yard since joining towards the end of 2009.
A second winner was almost had on the same card with Maximus Aurelius finishing a narrowly beaten third, only a neck behind the winner, in a 1m 2f handicap.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL INVOLVED
A New Year.... and another year older
The stable wishes everyone A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS 2010.
With the New Year having arrived, and passed, all the horses are another year older, yearlings have become two year olds, three have become four etc and the work to bring on the younger horses continues at pace. Now the Kheleyf filly has been broken in and ridden away, the second two year old, the filly out of So Elegant, has returned to the yard following a short spell turned out to allow her to develop. We are pleased to report that she has put on weight and grown sufficiently to allow her to begin being broken in. This is an exciting time when more than once the thought crosses the mind as to what prospects a lay ahead for both these untried newcommers and the older horses as they begin another campaign !
