Tidal Fury prepares for the weekend
Our Grade 1 winning jumper Tidal Fury had is final schooling session before running at Doncaster on Saturday. He is in very good form and enjoying his work. Our only other runner this week will be Pie-O-My who has been entered for Wolverhampton on Friday. He has improved a lot for his first run and looks to be developing into a nice horse.
Our two year olds are developing well and we still expect to have some of them out earlier in the season than would be the norm for us. Some of our favorite horses from last year are back cantering after having a rest at the end of 2007 so expect more news to follow on the exploits of Graylyn Ruby, Maximus Aurelius, Crimson Mitre and Esthlos in the coming weeks.
Tattersalls 800 Fillies race entry
It seems a little strange to be entering our just broken in babies but today was the final entry day for the £800,000 Tattersalls Fillies sales race. Only around 350 fillies are eligible to enter as it is restricted to horses sold out of Book 1 of the Tattersalls sales. We have entered our as yet unnamed Mark of Esteem filly who seems very forward and has cantered today on Warren Hill.
Only 132 horses have entered so the odds look a lot better than the lottery!
French Raiding Party
Our next two runners will both be in France. On Monday 26th Crimson Mitre (pictured below) runs in the Prix Radio Evasion at Fontainebleau and on Friday 30th Tidal Fury will be at Enghien-Soisy for the Gr.3 Prix Leopold D'Orsetti. Both horses have been working well at home.
Stable Update
The last couple of months have been very productive for the yard with wins for Maximus Aurelius at Catterick, Tidal Fury at Auteuil and Esthlos (pictured below) at York.
Behind the scenes we have been busy preparing for the future with some exciting prospects joining us from the sales. Over the next few updates you will be introduced to the new horses.
YEARLINGS FOR SALE
Yearling season is upon us and we have already been busy acquiring the following prospects at the Fairyhouse sales that are available for syndication. I have had a lot of luck (and fun!) buying at this sale. There are few flashy pedigrees on offer but it is a rich source of future winners. So Elegant (4 wins) came from this sale for only 3,500 euros.
Chestnut colt by Spartacus (born 18th March 2006) - pictured below lower
This racy lad looks like he will be an early 2-y-o and is from the family of this years Irish Derby winner SOLDIER OF FORTUNE and Group 1 sprinter DOUBLE FORM. He is a half brother to 6 time winner Summer Magic. As a yard we have always lacked a true sprinter but this colt looks like he might fill the gap.
Bay colt by Bishop of Cashel (born 15th April 2006) - pictured below top
He is likely to be a mid season juvenille that will have the option of a jumps career as well as racing on the flat. We have had a lot of success with Bishop of Cashel horses with Bill Bennett winning 6 races and Crimson Mitre being one of our most exciting 2-y-os. This chap also has a Derby winning pedigree as DR DEVIOUS is from the same family. He is also half brother to 3 winners including Barney Curley's Cristoforo (11 wins including 2 over hurdles).
Email me direct at jjracing@btconnect.com to discuss the syndication of the colts.
Saturday 8th September
Carlton Scroop ran a good race last night and finished 4th after a fairly long break. Many thanks to apprentice jockey Michael Geran who offered his services after Jamie Spencer was signed off for all his rides. Carlton is not the easiest of rides and Michael did very well to cope with his quirks both before and during the race.
I plan to take Tidal Fury (pictured below at Auteuil on Tuesday) back to France on 29th September for another hurdle race.
